HIRING A HUMAN
(1997) After placing a help wanted ad in a local newspaper advertising a one day temporary job, I received and recorded over 6 hours of phone messages inquiring on the position.
After replying to all the inquiries and explaining the position, which was to be part of an artwork, 48 people agreed to be photographed and interview and have their applications on display. From those 48 applicants, one was hired to attend the opening and roam the space for the duration.
The installation played the six hours of recorded voice messages and allowed the public to view through the binders containing the 48 applications and personal questionnaires.
